Steve Winwood, While You See A Chance/Song share

Stand up in a clear blue morning
Until you see
What can be
Alone in a cold day dawning,
Are you still free?
Can you be?

When some cold tomorrow finds you,
When some sad old dream reminds you
How the endless road unwinds you ?

While you see a chance take it,
Find romance fake it
Because it’s all on you

Don’t you know by now no one gives you anything
Don’t you wonder how you keep on moving
One more day your way
When there’s no one left to leave you,
Even you don’t quite believe you
That’s when nothing can deceive you

Stand up in a clear blue morning
Until you see
What can be
Alone in a cold day dawning,
Are you still free?
Can you be?

And that old gray wind is blowing
And there’s nothing left worth knowing
And it’s time you should be going

It is no secret that as a blogger or any person that is found on the internet, can and that we do somehow, influence others. Maybe this is intentional, maybe it is not.

Rule of thumb though…

You are on the internet, millions of millions of people cruise and look at the internet daily.

In The News…

https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/lifestyle-buzz/a-lifestyle-blogger-received-death-threats-after-posting-a-photo-of-pancakes-that-were-actually-tortilla-wraps/ar-BBMOmmj?li=BBnbcA0&ocid=spartandhp

  • Scarlett London, a style and travel blogger, has come under fire on Instagram.
  • London uploaded a photo of her “perfect morning,” but eagle-eyed followers quickly realised her cup of tea was empty and her plate of pancakes was actually made up of tortilla wraps.
  • Not everything we see on Instagram is a reality, and people criticised London for adding to the problem.
  • Young people may feel inadequate by looking at these sorts of images, they argued.
  • London said she never wanted to post something harmful, and her aim has always been to show the opposite – that you can live a fun and full life despite your problems.

Statistics…

Internet usage worldwide – Statistics & Facts

There was an estimate of 3.5 billion internet users worldwide in 2016. This means about 45 percent of the global population accessed the internet that year. The majority of global internet users are located in East and South Asia, while China is the largest online market in the world. In 2016, China had over 721 million internet users, more than double the amount of third-ranked U.S. with nearly 290 million internet users. India ranked second in number of users; Brazil and Japan complete the top 5. English is the most common language on the internet by share of users, followed by Chinese and Spanish. South Korea has the world’s fastest average internet connection speed – 27 Mbps as of 2016. The global average internet speed stood at 6.1 Mbps that year.

Internet users often turn to their mobile devices to access the internet. Millennial internet users, for example, spent an average of 185 minutes on mobile internet services every day in 2016. Generation X internet users’ average daily use of mobile internet stood at 110 minutes that year. Many companies have been profiting from the increased mobile usage by following a mobile-first strategy and optimizing their content for mobile devices. Some of the most popular mobile internet activities are using email, working, social networking, online search, online video and online shopping. Instant messaging is also popular among mobile internet users worldwide. WhatsApp is the most popular mobile messaging app in the world with one billion monthly active users. Facebook Messenger closely follows with 900 million monthly active users. Facebook was found to be the leading social network with 1.7 billion active users. Other popular social networks include Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr, as well as mobile chat apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or WeChat.

DID YOU KNOW

WordPress Usage Statistics That Will Make Your Jaw Drop

As we are sure you will soon agree, the stats below are nothing if not impressive. To paint as accurate a picture as possible, we tried to include the most current statistics. If not stated otherwise, all numbers are from 2016.

1. WordPress powers almost 27 percent of the entire internet.

As already stated in the beginning, WordPress is by far the most popular CMS on the web. However, you might not be aware just how popular the platform has become.

First of all, its market share among all content management systems is close to 60 percent. What’s more, its closest competitor Joomla (here is a comparison of the two CMS) is used by only 6.3 percent. Yes, that’s the second most popular content management system in the world!

usage statistics and market share of content management systems for websites october 2016

The bigger surprise, however, and by far the most impressive WordPress usage statistic is that 26.9 percent of all websites on the web now use WordPress. With more than one billion websites online today, I’ll let you do the math how many sites in total that is. I know, I was as surprised as you are!

2. WordPress sites around the world publish 24 posts per second.

You read that right. In 2016, blogs that are part of the WordPress network (meaning blogs hosted either on WordPress.com or externally hosted WordPress sites that have the Jetpack plugin installed) published on average 24 blog posts per second. That comes down to 1,481 blog posts per minute, 88,888 in an hour and just above 2.13 million per day. And that’s not counting those sites for which WordPress cannot collect any statistics.

wordpress activity map

To get a better impression of what this looks like, WordPress.com offers a map that lets you see updates around the world in real-time. You can find it here.

3. WordPress sites receive 22.17 billion monthly page views.

It appears that all of that activity is paying off, resulting in massive traffic. For this year alone, blogs in the WordPress network have garnered a combined average of 22.17 billion page views per month. That’s three times as many as there are people on the planet! Let that sink in for a minute.

4. WordPress blogs receive 46.6 million comments per month.

And man are those visitors a talkative bunch. Each month of this year produced on average 46.6 million comments. Looks like there are some fierce discussions going on out there. Plus, these are legitimate comments, which made it through the spam protection, mind you.

If the Akismet stats are any indication, the number of spam comments generated at the same time is about 30 times higher. That means besides the legitimate comments WordPress blogs receive every month, they get bombarded by 1.4 billion spammers at the same time. Jeez!

5. There are 2.7 million global monthly searches for WordPress.

Seeing the amount of data WordPress.com alone can handle, it is unsurprising that WordPress is so popular and continues to garner attention. The platform’s growing esteem is also reflected in its Google searches.

In the United States alone, “WordPress” as a keyword receives 450,000 search requests every month. Globally that number is up to 2.7 million. That’s not even taking into account people looking for “WordPress templates,” “WordPress plugins,” and other WordPress-centric information. Overall, WordPress-related terms (including those for “wp,” a common abbreviation for WordPress) receive somewhere between 10 and 100 million global searches every month.

As for how the platform stacks up against its competitors: Google Trends sees WordPress 5.5 times more popular than Joomla and almost nine times more in demand than Drupal. Seems like the WordPress usage statistics will only continue to grow.

McHammer, U Can’t Touch This/Music Share

LOVE THIS, it was great back in the day! Enjoy!

Lyrics

You can’t touch this
You can’t touch this
You can’t touch this
You can’t touch this

My, my, my my music hits me so hard
Makes me say, “Oh my Lord”
Thank you for blessin’ me
With a mind to rhyme and two hype feet
It feels good, when you know you’re down
A super dope homeboy from the Oaktown
And I’m known as such
And this is a beat, uh, you can’t touch

I told you homeboy (You can’t touch this)
Yeah, that’s how we livin’ and ya know (You can’t touch this)
Look in my eyes, man (You can’t touch this)
Yo, let me bust the funky lyrics (You can’t touch this)

Fresh new kicks, and pants
You gotta like that, now you know you wanna dance
So move outta yo seat
And get a fly girl and catch this beat
While it’s rollin’, hold on!
Pump a little bit and let ’em know it’s goin’ on
Like that, like that
Cold on a mission, so fall on back
Let ’em know, that you’re too much
And this is a beat, uh, they can’t touch

Yo, I told you (you can’t touch this)
Why you standin’ there, man? (You can’t touch this)
Yo, sound the bell, school’s in, sucka (You can’t touch this)

Give me a song, or rhythm
Makin’ ’em sweat, that’s what I’m givin’ ’em
Now, they know
You talkin’ ’bout the Hammer, you’re talkin’ ’bout a show
That’s hyped, and tight
Singers are sweatin’, so pass them a wipe
Or a tape, to learn
What’s it gonna take in the 90’s to burn
The charts? Legit
Either work hard or you might as well quit

That’s word because you know (You can’t touch this)
(You can’t touch this)
Break it down!

Stop, Hammer time!

Go with the flow, it is said
That if you can’t groove to this then you probably are dead
So wave yo hands in the air
Bust a few moves, run your fingers through your hair
This is it, for a winner
Dance to this and you’re gonna get thinner
Move, slide your rump
Just for a minute let’s all do the bump
(Bump, bump, bump)

Yeah (You can’t touch this)
Look, man (You can’t touch this)
You better get hype, boy, ’cause you know you can’t (You can’t touch this)
Ring the bell, school’s back in
Break it down!

Stop, Hammer time!

You can’t touch this
You can’t touch this
You can’t touch this
Break it down!

Stop, Hammer time!

Every time you see me, the Hammer’s just so hyped
I’m dope on the floor and I’m magic on the mic
Now why would I ever stop doin’ this?
With others makin’ records that just don’t hit
I’ve toured around the world, from London to the Bay
It’s “Hammer, go Hammer, MC Hammer, yo Hammer”
And the rest can go and play
You can’t touch this

You can’t touch this
You can’t touch this
Yeah (You can’t touch this)
I told you (Can’t touch this)
Too hot (Can’t touch this)
Yo, we outta here (Can’t touch this)

3 reasons not to weigh…/Information Share

3 Major Reasons Not to Weigh Yourself Everyday

Article posted in: Lifestyle

The temptation to incessantly step on the scale makes sense, when losing weight is top of mind: You’re eating healthier, moving more throughout the day and maybe need to justify your hard work so you’ll stay motivated. We get why you do it, but if you weigh yourself every day, stop now. This could be the best advice for weight loss you’ve ever heard.

Here are three major reasons not to weigh yourself everyday:

1. Daily weigh-ins don’t accurately indicate weight loss.

Not only can the number on that scale fluctuate from day to day, but it may even swing between morning and night—and that is perfectly normal. “People think they’re gaining fat when they see (their weight) creep up a bit, but that’s not always the case,” says Chelsea Lovell, weight loss counselor at Nutrisystem. Lovell explains that water retention is one of the main reasons weight fluctuates. High sodium intake, for example, may cause your body to retain more fluid. Women may also put on water weight during their menstrual cycle, she adds. So, hormones may tip the scale just like the size of a meal.

2. Fluctuating numbers can mess with your mindset.

It can be discouraging to see the scale go up and down, according to Lovell—no matter how many times you tell yourself its normal. Experts at the Mayo Clinic relay that the scale’s disappointing news can be particularly frustrating when you try to eat right and exercise. This event might send you straight for the nearest comfort food. And because most people should aim to lose one to two pounds per week, you’re not going to see a big loss when you step on that scale daily.

3. The scale isn’t the only measure of your success.

Yes, the scale is the best tool to quantify your weight, and when paired with body measurements, for example, it can be a good way to track your progress. “But there are many victories to pay attention to off the scale,” says Lovell—clothing fit, energy levels, better skin, overall health improvements, and more. The true happiness associated with losing weight is outside of the numbers anyway, tied to these life-enhancing benefits.

Facts About Labor Day/ Information Share

th

  • It is dedicated to the economic and social achievements of employees in the United States. In the United States Labor Day is celebrated annually on the first Monday in September as a holiday for the labor movement in America.[1]

  • It is the last blast of the summer vacation season. Monday, September 3, 2012 is Labor Day, in the U.S. The holiday will be celebrated by families around the country with picnics, barbecues, road trips, and sports events.[2]

  • Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.[3]

In the late 19th century, Labor Day celebrations focused mainly on parades in towns and cities. However, the holiday evolved over the years to honor organized labor with fewer parades, and more activities.

There is a fair bit of controversy about who should be credited for Labor Day coming into existence. Sure, former President Grover Cleveland signed it into law in 1894, but there are mainly two men with similar sounding surnames — Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and Matthew Maguire, member of International Association of Machinists — whose mentions come up when the history of Labor Day is traced back. However, the debate on who among the two conceived the idea of Labor Day is still raging.

Apart from being the unofficial end to summer, the day also marks the unofficial end of hot dog season. According to National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, it is estimated that Americans end up devouring seven billion hot dogs per year between Memorial Day (May 27) and Labor Day.

A fashion trend on Labor Day, which has been discontinued in the recent years, called for people to not step out dressed in white garments after the holiday was over. The tradition dated back to the Victorian era when people traditionally wore white when vacationing in their summer cottages, till Labor Day, which put an unofficial end to the season. After Labor Day, people would traditionally opt for colors which were more appropriate for the upcoming Fall — a trend that is no longer observed, what with white becoming the go-to color for every season.

The woman with a red and white polka dotted scarf tied around her head and flexing her biceps has become an iconic symbol for woman laborers over the ages. The poster — called Rosie the Riveter — was designed by artist J. Howard Miller. She stood as a symbol of feminism and a morale booster for women working in factories during World War II. In 2016, reality star and model Kendall Jenner recreated the image as part of a campaign to encourage women to go out to vote in the election.

Labor Day is often the busiest time of the year, as everyone is driving to some place, whether to spend quality time with their family and relatives or spend it with friends, making the most of the last bit of summer. Some of the places frequented by holiday-goers are South Beach Florida, Myrtle Beach, and Coney Island.

It won’t be a Labor Day story without some interesting facts about the very people the Labor Day is dedicated to — workers in various fields of the social structure who contribute to the progress of the country. It is estimated that U.S. workers punched in an estimated 1,790 hours per year. The level of dedication to work is impressive, especially considering these workers take on average about 25.4 minutes to get to work.
