Oh! I could say so much about this song, but I will try to keep it to a minimum.
First, I love the symbolism in this song to my own life. It is true that a person’s upbringing can help to mold who they become or where they end up, or better yet, what they keep with them. I find this song to be true to that. Often we remember back into our younger years with such admonishment. Other times we don’t we only see sad things or bad things. Since I am getting older and all I find that I reminisce a lot. I attribute who I am at the core to be a product of my childhood, but also a product of my adulthood. Luckily we do not have to live in a past of ourselves, we have the power to change into whoever we wish to be, as we grow up.
Secondly, any song that sounds like this one, well, it has my vote. I love the singer Miranda Lambert’s voice. She is crisp and country and talented. Sometimes I figure her songs come from the same place as my poems do, from personal experiences. I can feel her attempt at reaching others through song and it makes her music meaningful.
Thirdly and last of all, I know there comes a time in a person’s life when we want to re-visit things from our old life. The reason’s do not always have to be the same. We often find ourselves trying to make sense of things that did not matter and do now, or various other things like, why’s and what if’s, or want’s. There is never a straightforward answer to these types of questions I believe. One must study the cause and effect of things in their life. Only then can you gather enough to make a knowledgeable summary.
Listen to this song if you haven’t. It can be profound for some and possibly you can identify with the lyrics. Just a thought!
Thanks for reading!

The House That Built Me
Miranda Lambert https://binged.it/2luoYJ1I know they say you can’t go home again
I just had to come back one last time
Ma’am I know you don’t know me from Adam
But these handprints on the front steps are mine
Up those stairs in that little back bedroom
Is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar
I bet you didn’t know under that live oak
My favorite dog is buried in the yard
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
Mama cut out pictures of houses for years
From Better Homes and Gardens magazine
Plans were drawn and concrete poured
Nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to mama’s dream
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
You leave home and you move on and you do the best you can
I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing
Out here it’s like I’m someone else
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could walk around I swear I’ll leave
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me
