Background on “Hotel California”
Despite popular belief, the Eagles turned down all the theories. They have confirmed that “Hotel California” actually has nothing to do with Satanism, psychiatric hospitals, or cocaine addictions. The hit song is actually an interesting examination. It focuses on the pitfalls of living within Southern California in the tumultuous 1970s.The Eagles in 2008
The song is written by Don Felder, Glenn Frey, and Don Henley of the Eagles. The “Hotel California” lyrics meaning focuses on the excessive materialism of California. However, it also hints at the same situation across the nation in the 1970s. Back in 2007, in an interview with the London Daily Mail, Don Henley approached the issue. He disproved the wilder interpretations as mere figments of the overactive public imagination. Instead, it’s all about the “uneasy balance between art and commerce.” The song was actually the Grammy winner for Record of the Year in 1977. “Hotel California” was merely the band’s interpretation of the high life in California. This was full of propaganda with the signature images of the stars on Hollywood Boulevard, for instance. Add the beaches with scantily clad women, and shining lights you could see for hundreds of miles.
The True Meaning
The song is aimed the characteristic greed and hedonism associated with Hollywood during the time period. This includes the excess of drugs, piles of money, and easy women. Moreover, the Eagles admitted they themselves were drowning in these temptations. As evidence from the photographer for the album cover, he has stated that the picture was intended to represent the dramatic loss of innocence and rising growth of corruption. The real “Hotel California”
Throughout the song, the lyrics entwine a surrealistic viewpoint into a fictional tale of weary travelers checking in for a night at a luxurious hotel in the heart of Los Angeles. Although the hotel draws the travelers in with its inviting and tempting appeals, they soon figure out that it is a nightmarish place they can never leave behind. In this tale, the “Hotel California” is an allegory about the inescapable musical industry within the dark underbelly of the American dream. While there are certainly real hotels with the name, you can’t find Hotel California in real life outside of the iconic Eagles song. It is a great metaphor for the charms of the West Coast and its effects on the unworldly musicians that fall into its glittering trap of fame and fortune without an escape.
“Hotel California” is arguably the Eagles’ most iconic song. The hit tune was a billboard chart-topper; it sold over 16 million copies in the U.S. alone and was on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 19 weeks, peaking at No. 1. In 1978, the song won a Grammy award for Record of the Year.
Here are five facts that you might not know about The Eagles’ “Hotel California.”
1. Glenn Frey was the mastermind behind the song’s lyrics
The late Glenn Frey penned the lyrics for the hit song along with band members Don Henley and Don Felder.
2. The song is about “excess in America”
While there have been many theories that contemplate what the song represents, the Eagles’ band members have revealed in multiple interviews that the true meaning behind “Hotel California” is a commentary on the hedonism and self-indulgence of America.
“It’s basically a song about the dark underbelly of the American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about,” Henley said in a 2002 interview with “60 Minutes.”
In 2005, Henley further explained the meaning of the song to Rolling Stone magazine, which placed “Hotel California” at no. 49 on its list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
“We were all middle class kids from the Midwest,” Henley said. “‘Hotel California’ was our interpretation of the high life in L.A.”
3. “Hotel California” originally had a different name
According to journalist-turned-director Cameron Crowe, “Hotel California” was almost named something entirely different.
In 2003, Crowe revealed in “Conversations with Don Henley and Glenn Frey,” which was part of the liner notes for the Eagles’ compilation album “The Very Best Of,” that “Hotel California” was originally going to be titled “Mexican Reggae.”

A Look at Some of Glenn Frey’s Top Songs With the Eagles4. “Hotel California” was declared a song that shaped rock and roll
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, named “Hotel California” as one of the songs that shaped rock and roll.
The Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and all seven former and present members of the group performed “Hotel California” together on stage.
5. There is a playful nod to the band Steely Dan in the song
The line “They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can’t kill the beast,” is a playful jab to rock band Steely Dan.
Frey revealed in the liner notes of “The Very Best Of” that they alluded to the “Do it Again” rock band in “Hotel California” after Steely Dan made an Eagles reference in their song “Everything You Did.”

LyricsWoke up this morning, can’t shake the thunder from last night
You left with no warning and took the summer from my life
I gave you my everything, now my world it don’t seem right
Can we just go back to being us again?‘Cause when I’m sitting in the bar
All the lovers with umbrellas always pass me by
It’s like I’m living in the dark
And my heart’s turned cold since you left my life
And no matter where I go
Girl, I know if I’m alone, there’ll be no blue sky
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong‘Cause baby, when you’re gone
All it does is rain, rain, rain down on me
Each drop is pain, pain, pain when you leave
It’s such a shame we fucked it up, you and me
‘Cause baby, when you’re gone
All it does is rainAnd it feels like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
And it feels like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
‘Cause baby, when you’re gone
All it does is rainTried to find shelter here in the arms of someone new
But I’d rather be there under the covers just with you
‘Cause you were my everything
Now I don’t know what to do
Oh, I’m caught up in the storm‘Cause baby, when you’re gone
All it does is rain, rain, rain down on me
Each drop is pain, pain, pain when you leave
It’s such a shame we fucked it up, you and me
‘Cause baby, when you’re gone
All it does is rainAnd it feels like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
And it feels like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
‘Cause baby, when you’re gone
All it does is rain‘Cause when I’m sitting in the bar

It’s like I’m living in the dark

And no matter where I go

No secret I love Cats, lol.
I want to take them all but my space and finances would not like that, I already have my hands full enough. Cats are great though. Seriously, they are such special creatures.
I read a poem once on a bathroom wall.
It went like this
Cats are such agreeable creatures, they pass no judgements nor any criticisms.
Whoever wrote that was out of their mind. Just saying! Cats are most definitely not always agreeable and they can give you a “cold shoulder” if you let them down. Mine sure can.
Any how, I thought I would share some poems about cats…
http://www.kinrossfolds.com/cattery/felinemystique.html
That is just a fraction of the many , many, sayings about cats you can find on the internet.
If you need a good mostly dependent pal, get yourself a cat. They are sweet to cuddle and your heart will forever adore them.
If you are one of the ones lucky enough to have a cat love you, then you have been blessed.
SOME things you might not have heard about cats, I do not necessarily support or believe all these, but for information sake, I am sharing.

The Cat as a Soothsayer
- Cats can forecast the weather: they predict the wind by clawing at carpets and curtains; rain is highly likely when a cat busily washes its ears.
- In mythology, the cat was believed to have great influence on the weather. Witches who rode on storms took the form of cats. The dog, an attendant of the storm king Odin, was a symbol of wind. Cats came to symbolize down-pouring rain, and dogs to symbolize strong gusts of wind. This may be where the phrase “it’s raining cats and dogs” originated (see also “Miscellaneous” section below).
- Some people believed that if a cat washes its face and paws in the parlor, company’s coming.
- If a cat continually looks out a window on any day, rain is on the way.
- A black cat seen from behind foretells a bad omen.
- A stray tortoise-shell cat foretells bad omen
- Some cats can predict earthquakes (actually, there is some truth in this “folklore”).
- When a girl living in the Ozark Mountains received a proposal of marriage and was uncertain whether to accept, she folded and placed 3 hairs from a cat’s tail into a paper under her doorstep. The next morning, she would unfold the paper to see if the hairs had formed themselves into a Y or N before answering her suitor.
- Sailors used cats to predict the voyages they were about to embark upon. Loudly mewing cats meant that it would be a difficult voyage. A playful cat meant that it would be a voyage with good and gusty winds.
- Some people believe that cats are able to see the human aura, the energy field that surrounds each of us.
- If early American cats sat with their backs to the fire, the owners knew it foretold a cold snap.
- A cat sleeping with all four paws tucked under means bad weather is coming.
- Some people believe that cats may be able to see the spectre of death.
- If a cat washes behind its ears, it will rain (no doubt this superstition began in some very rainy country!)
- A cat sneezing once means there will be rain.
- If a cat sneezes three times, the family will catch a cold
- A sneezing cat is a sign of future wealth.
- A cat sneezing is a good omen for everyone who hears it. – Italian superstition
- Early Americans believed if a cat washes her face in front of several people, the first person she looks at will be the first to get married.
- If there is a cat washing on the doorstep, the clergy will visit – American folklore
- When the pupil of a cat’s eye broadens, there will be rain. – Welsh superstition
- If you find a white hair on a black cat, you will have good luck.
- One Roman dream interpretation was that dreaming of being badly scratched by a cat foretold sickness and trouble.
- French peasants thought that black cats could find buried treasure, if they followed a specific ritual: find an intersection where 5 roads connected, then turn the cat loose and follow him.
- A strange black cat on your porch brings prosperity. – Scottish superstition
- Tortoiseshell cats were believed to be able to see into the future and could give the gift to a lucky child in the household.
- Sailors believed that if a cat licked its fur against the grain it meant a hailstorm was coming; if it sneezed, rain was on the way; and if it was frisky, the wind would soon blow.
- When the pupil of a cat’s eye broadens, there will be rain. – Welsh superstition
- A bride will have a happy married life if a black cat sneezes near her on her wedding day.
- Sacred cats kept in a sanctuary in ancient Egypt were carefully tended by priests who watched them day and night. The priests interpreted the cat’s movements – twitch of a whisker, yawn, or stretch – into a prediction of an event that would happen in the future.

Carbonated water is a refreshing beverage and a good alternative to sugary soft drinks. However, concerns have been raised that it may be bad for your health.
Let’s look at the health effects of carbonated water.
Carbonated water is acidic, but your body should maintain a stable, slightly alkaline pH no matter what you consume.
Sugar-sweetened carbonated beverages can erode tooth enamel, but plain carbonated water appears relatively harmless.
Carbonated water has benefits for digestion. It may improve swallowing, increase feelings of fullness and reduce constipation.
Drinking carbonated cola drinks may harm bone health, but plain sparkling water appears to have a neutral or positive effect.
There is currently no evidence that carbonated or sparkling water is bad for you. It is not really that harmful for dental health and seems to have no effect on bone health.
Interestingly, a carbonated drink may even enhance digestion by improving swallowing ability and reducing constipation.
It’s also a calorie-free beverage that causes a pleasurable bubbly sensation. Many people prefer it over still water.
There’s no reason to give up this beverage if you enjoy it. In fact, it may actually improve your overall health.
