Prediabetes/Information Share

Prediabetes

What is prediabetes?

Prediabetes is a warning sign that you are at risk for getting type 2 diabetes. It means that your blood sugar is higher than it should be, but not high enough to be diabetes. Prediabetes is also called impaired glucose tolerance or impaired fasting glucose. Most people who get type 2 diabetes have prediabetes first.

What causes prediabetes?

The food you eat turns into sugar, which your body uses for energy. Normally, an organ called the pancreas makes insulin, which allows the sugar in your blood to get into your body’s cells. But when your body can’t use insulin the right way, the sugar doesn’t move into cells. It stays in your blood instead. This is called insulin resistance. The buildup of sugar in the blood causes prediabetes.

People who are overweight, aren’t physically active, and have a family history of diabetes are more likely to get prediabetes. Women who have had gestational diabetes are also more likely to get prediabetes.

What are the symptoms?

Most people with prediabetes don’t have any symptoms. But if you have prediabetes, you need to watch for signs of diabetes, such as:
• Feeling very thirsty.
• Urinating more often than usual.
• Feeling very hungry.
• Having blurred vision.
• Losing weight without trying.

How is prediabetes diagnosed?

A blood test can tell if you have prediabetes. You have prediabetes if:
• The results of your hemoglobin A1c test are 5.7% to 6.4%.
• The results of your fasting blood glucose test are between 100 and 125 milligrams per deciliter.
• The results of your oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) are 140 to 199 mg/dL (2 hours after the beginning of the test).

How is it treated?

The key to treating prediabetes and preventing type 2 diabetes is getting your blood sugar levels back to a normal range. You can do this by making some lifestyle changes.
• Watch your weight. If you are overweight, losing just a small amount of weight may help. Reducing fat around your waist is particularly important.
• Make healthy food choices. Limit the amount of unhealthy fat you eat, such as saturated fat and trans fat. Try to cut calories and limit sweets.
• Be active. You can do moderate activity, vigorous activity, or both. Bit by bit, increase the amount you do every day. You may want to swim, bike, or do other activities. Walking is an easy way to get exercise.
Making these changes may help delay or prevent diabetes. You may also avoid or delay some of the serious problems that you can get when you have diabetes, such as heart attack, stroke, and heart, eye, nerve, and kidney disease.

You may need to take a diabetes medicine called metformin. It reduces the amount of sugar made by the liver in people who are insulin-resistant.

Things I like/ Personal Share

Hello, everybody!

I am going to share three things I use in my own home, or I simply just like.

https://amzn.to/2It8o72

DOGGY DIAPERS OR DOG WRAPS

If you have an elder dog that cannot hold their pee , you should think about using these. This particular wrap is for male dogs but you can also buy female dog diapers.

My dog has a tumor and it is on his rear end. I buy the female diapers, that can be washed , for him. It covers his back-end and that protects his tumor area. I wash them and they are great.

Females dogs that go in heat, these washable diapers are the thing to have.

These little things are good if you want a instant picture, and if you like smaller pictures. I love mine. It is compact and comes with a carrying case. The size is a little bigger than a deck of cards.

I love my crock pot and really think they are such time savers. You can put something in it and forget it, it has low and high settings and also a warmer option which simply keeps things warm.

Everyone enjoy your week and remember…

You are special and you are unique, do not ever doubt your worth!

Slow Cooker Frittata Provencal/Recipe Share

Slow-Cooker-Frittata-Provencal_EXPS_LSBZ18_175023_D01_18_3b-2-696x696.jpgIngredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium Yukon Gold potato, peeled and sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 12 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh thyme or 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 log (4 ounces) fresh goat cheese, coarsely crumbled, divided
  • 1/2 cup chopped soft sun-dried tomatoes (not packed in oil)

Directions

  • Layer two 24-in. pieces of aluminum foil; starting with a long side, fold up foil to create a 1-in.-wide strip. Shape strip into a coil to make a rack for bottom of a 6-qt. oval slow cooker. Add water to slow cooker; set foil rack in water.
  • In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add potato and onion; cook and stir 5-7 minutes or until potato is lightly browned. Stir in paprika. Transfer to a greased 1-1/2-qt. baking dish (dish must fit in slow cooker).
  • In a large bowl, whisk eggs, thyme, pepper sauce, salt and pepper; stir in 2 ounces cheese. Pour over potato mixture. Top with tomatoes and remaining goat cheese. Place dish on foil rack.
  • Cook, covered, on low 3-4 hours or until eggs are set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Test Kitchen tips

  • We tested this recipe with tomatoes that are ready to use without soaking. When using whole sun-dried tomatoes that are not oil-packed, cover with boiling water and let stand until soft. Drain before chopping.
  • Smoked paprika adds a rich flavor to this dish. You can also use it in recipes that call for ground chipotle pepper.
  • No feta? Cream cheese or mascarpone mixed with yogurt, for tanginess, will work.

Barbara Mandrell, “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool”/Song Share

https://youtu.be/kVYDGhhJMU0

I remember wearin’ straight leg Levis and flannel shirts
Even when they weren’t in style
I remember singin’ with Roy Rogers at the movies
When the West was really wild
And I was listenin’ to the Opry
When all of my friends were diggin’ Rock ‘n Roll
And Rhythm & Blues
I was country, when country wasn’t cool

I remember circlin’ the drive-in, pullin’ up
And turnin’ down George Jones
I remember when no one was lookin’
I was puttin’ peanuts in my Coke
I took a lot of kiddin’
‘Cause I never did fit in
now look at everybody tryin’ to be what I was then
I was country, when country wasn’t cool

I was country, when country wasn’t cool
I was country, from my hat down to my boots
I still act, and look the same
What you see ain’t nothin’ new
I was country, when country wasn’t cool

They call us country bumpkins
For stickin’ to our roots
I’m just glad we’re in a country
Where we’re all free to choose
I was country, when country wasn’t cool
