WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF BUTTE?

Butte “an isolated hill or mountain rising abruptly above the surrounding land” is a borrowing from French, in which it means “small hill, mound.” In Old French, butte referred specifically to a mound or structure used for archery practice and also to the target itself, which is why modern French but means “aim, goal.” Despite its enduring place in the French language, butte was originally a borrowing from a Germanic source such as Frankish or Old Norse, in which the word meant something like “piece” or “end part.” Butte was first recorded in English in the mid-1600s.

HOW IS BUTTE USED?

Bears are a common thread among the Indigenous tribal stories about the origins of this iconic butte, and most Indigenous names for the tower reference bears. A Kiowa legend tells of seven girls who were attacked by bears. One of the girls prayed to the rock for help, and the rock began to grow, pushing the girls out of the bears’ reach. When the bears jumped to reach the girls, they fell to the ground, scratching the rock and creating the deep grooves you see in the butte.AMBER SHARE, SUBPAR PARKS: AMERICA’S MOST EXTRAORDINARY NATIONAL PARKS AND THEIR LEAST IMPRESSED VISITORS, 2021

You need a map to find Paris’s Butte aux Cailles, but that’s one of the best things about it….Incidentally, at an elevation of about 190 feet, it’s not much of a butte—just high enough up to feel better off than the rest of this rapidly changing part of Paris.DEBORAH BALDWIN, “OUI OUI, HON: BALTIMORE IN PARIS,” WASHINGTON POST, SUNDAY, JULY 13, 1997

CICO Diet

The calories in, calories out concept is the backbone of weight loss, but some experts say this method can be problematic. Here the right way to count calories.

The CICO plan operates under the premise that you’ll lose weight by consuming fewer calories than your body uses to perform its daily functions. It makes sense, right?

Homeschool- Webtime

We did web work today. I don’t do this every day but today was rainy outside. We did lessons from Education.com. It is a great deal. Education.com let’s your student/ child, work through different skills, lessons, objectives.

The kids can use this on their tablets or home computers. As a teacher, I can see what they do, how they do, and all that they’ve done. Check out Education.com for more information. It’s worth it.

ABC Mouse is also a great program. As the teacher/ parent, you can see what they do and how they are doing. It is a good program. We have had it for years.

Today was great. Tiring for me because I devote a lot of my time to the success of our classroom. I am pleased by the effort these two have used in their work. I am looking forward to a successful homeschooled year.

Not Every, Now, For In Please, In Case
By MwsR

Not a day goes by
Not a day there is a dry eye
Not a moment in time I am at peace when I think of you
Every stone left unturned
Every word I ever heard
Every chance that slipped away
Now I am here
Now you are there
Now the end is a foreseeable place
For every day that draws near
For every fear
For internal cleansing I wish you to have
In case you wonder
In case you ponder
In case I cross your mind
Please know I forgave you long ago
Please know I still hurt though
Please know I pray for you
It is hard to search a person’s heart
It is hard to know where to start
It is not a battle I want to keep going
So for me, the day has already come
So it has been since I was young
So now find your peace
Inside you, something is churning
Inside I am not sure it is my goodness that’s burning
Inside is not my place to access but God’s
Make the most of this chance or chances
Make everlasting glances
Make it count.
