What You Eat Can Influence Cancer

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

But studies suggest that simple lifestyle changes, such as following a healthy eating, could prevent 30–50% of all cancers. Growing evidence points to certain dietary habits increasing or decreasing cancer risk.

What’s more, nutrition is thought to play an important role in treating and coping with cancer.

Let’s cover what you need to know about the link between food and cancer.
Higher consumption of foods rich in sugar and refined carbs, as well as processed and overcooked meat, can increase your risk of cancer. In addition, higher dairy consumption has been linked to prostate cancer.

Being overweight or obese is one of the biggest risk factors for several types of cancer. Achieving a healthy weight can help protect against cancer development.

No single food can protect against cancer. However, eating with a eating plan full of diverse whole foods, such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, spices, healthy fats, fresh fish and high-quality dairy, may reduce cancer risk.

People on plant-based eating plans, such as vegetarians and vegans, may have a reduced risk of cancer. This is likely due to a high intake of fruit, vegetables and whole grains, as well as a low intake of processed foods.

Optimal nutrition can enhance quality of life and treatment in people with cancer and help prevent malnutrition. A healthy, balanced eating with sufficient protein and calories is best.

Early research suggests that a ketogenic eating may reduce cancerous tumor growth and improve quality of life without serious adverse side effects. However, more research is needed.
Though there are no miracle superfoods that can prevent cancer, some evidence suggests that dietary habits can offer protection. A eating plan high in whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats and lean protein may prevent cancer.

Conversely, processed meats, refined carbs, salt and alcohol may increase your risk. Though no eating plan has been proven to cure cancer, plant-based and keto diets may lower your risk or benefit treatment.

Grandmother’s House/Blue, story continues…

There just was something good about going to Blue’s grandmother’s house, it was some of the best of times for her.

Blue was always asking her father when he was going to see his mother, her grandmother, and she eagerly awaited the conformation that he was. She would accompany him, and it was worth it, because there was nothing like being at her grandmother’s house. Absolutely nothing! Her grandmother lived with her sister, Blue’s Great Aunt. They both were different in many ways but they were so great.

Blue would sometimes get permission to sleep over at their house and she always took advantage of the time there. She had a whole lot of neat places in their woods out back and she found cool stuff there, outside. She learned a lot about gardening and creatures, like snakes, turtles, etc. There was always something cool to explore and learn. Her grandmother was real modest and outspoken, but she liked that about her.

Blue’s Great Aunt was the religious kind and she read her Bible every day at breakfast, while sipping her coffee and eating the soaked saltines she added to it. Blue thought that was very strange indeed, but still it was cool. Her aunt always did cleaning and washing and hanging clothes, domestic stuff. inside the house is where you most often found her Aunt. Her aunt was not a fan of bugs or snakes or bees and such. She liked staying indoors more than being outside. She would usually be found doing her crossword puzzles when she had finished all her inside the house chores.

Blue’s Grandmother was the outdoor type. She was the one who could shoot a gun, drive the car, fix the best food, and any other thing outside that she could do. On her porch was a rattler from a rattle snake she made into a rattle that you could shake, it had a wood handle and was sprayed with clear paint to make it shine. It was odd but cool none the less. Blue thought there was no one in the world tough as her Grandmother and thought that her Grandmother was the smartest person she had ever met.

Her grandmother owned a Collie named Lady, and a duck named Screech, and two smaller, inside dogs named Frisky, and Sugar. Her grandmother loved poodles and Chihuahuas. She also had owned ducks, geese, and rosters. I guess you could say she was an animal lover. Ha ha. Blue always loved to play and pet on the many animals there was at that house. It was like being at a zoo sometimes. There really was no place that she would rather be, especially in the summer and in the evenings.

Her Father would go every evening to see his mother. He liked taking her mail to her and getting a cake of cornbread. She baked him one every single day. It was hot and fresh and wrapped up in tinfoil. Blue often snuck a pinch of the crispy crust when no one was looking. It was almost too irresistible. The best cornbread she had ever tasted. Her mother would put it crumbled up in a tall glass of buttermilk. Yum, yum.

Being at the Grandmother and Great Aunt’s house was a much-needed reprieve for her. Since her home was so hectic most of the time, and a scary place a lot of the time, she really was in a happy place being at their house. It was a place where she could be a kid, stay up late at night watching, “Saturday Night Live” or comedy shows, all while eating whatever her heart desired. Her Grandmother was a stickler for a person needing to eat well. She said a person could not go to sleep without a bedtime snack. Heck, it was not like that at home. She had a long stretch from supper to bed without anything else to eat, other than what had been for supper. Not to mention she was watched like a hawk. Food was not free to choose at her house. Never had been.

Once she asked her Grandmother if she could move in and live with them at their house. Her Grandmother just smiled and said, “You can always come here, but you live at your house.”

Is that what a person called “living”?

She did not think so. So many times she really thought about talking to her Grandmother about things at home, and even talking to her Great Aunt but she did not think that was a good idea, because after all she was the Mother of her Father, and she knew how strong a bond that was. She never wanted to jeopardize her Grandmother and Great Aunt’s relationship with her. After all, they would just would never believe her, anyhow!

. Blue would quietly keep all her darkest secrets inside. After all a life with some love was better than a life without anyone’s love.

TO BE CONTINUED…

These Animals Are About to Disappear From the Planet Forever

Earth is currently experiencing the worst wave of species die-offs — a mass extinction of plants and animals — since the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, according to the Center for Biological Diversity. Scientists say that nearly all of the thousands of currently threatened species — mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, plants and invertebrates — are at risk because of human activities, including habitat loss, introduction of non-natives, and the effects of climate change.

Pere David’s Deer

Elaphurus davidianus
Status: Extinct in the Wild
Population: about 600
This semi-aquatic deer of China vanished around 1939 when the last wild one was shot and killed. The Pere David’s Deer has been recovered from the edge of extinction after being reintroduced into captivity in China, according to the IUCN red list. There are now four wild populations being established by escapees from a Nature Reserve during severe flooding in 1998, according to IUCN.

Bee Gees,How Deep Is Your Love/Song Share

ONE OF MY OLE TIME FAVORITES!!!

I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again

And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love and then softly leave
And it’s me you need to show

How deep is your love? (how deep is your love?)
I really need to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You’re the light in my deepest darkest hour
You’re my saviour when I fall
And you may not think
I care for you
When you know down inside
That I really do
And it’s me you need to show

How deep is your love? (how deep is your love?)
I really need to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

How deep is your love? (how deep is your love?)
I really need to learn
‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools
Breaking us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

How deep is your love? (how deep is your love?)

Worth A Thousand Words (WATA)

Once a lover of fine things, Ecubog was a most selfish and prideful man. He did not care what something cost him, if he wanted it he would most definitely buy it.In his dark and lonely house he had wall to wall things , that through the years he had acquired. He proudly displayed them on shelfs along side one another.

I often wondered why he did that, when most certain he would never let anyone come by and see them. I guess he was happy looking at them all on his own. I met Ecubog while running the local merchant shop for my Uncle. Often he would come in to pick up something he had ordered from our catalog. He never said “Thank You” but he would surely tell you of the history behind the many expensive things he would buy. I have to say, I learned a lot listening to his talk. I was referred to as ” hired help” when he came in, never did he once use my name.

Anyhow, one day while I was working, I had several calls into the store, message after message asking if his special thing had arrived yet. I personally was getting tired of his fuss and rude repeated messages, so I answered the next few calls. He was so eager to get this “special” thing that he swore me to secrecy, lest I saw what it was. I was not sure why he asked me to remain quite upon any findings, but I sure was not going to get on his bad side. He was rather ugly when angered and I really did not want his anger towards me.

So when this “special thing” arrived I tried not to read anything on the outside of the package. I also needed help from the delivery guy to get this heavy thing inside the shop. I called Ecubog and told him of the arrival of this thing. He quickly hung up and it took him a whole ten minutes to arrive. After paying for his thing, he swore me to secrecy again. I must admit the curiosity was immense. I really wanted to know what he had bought. After bidding him good day  and thanking him for his patronage, I had an hour before getting off of my shift at the store. I went into my sales book and tried to look up the very thing he had ordered and wanted so very much.

After much searching I found the very thing he had purchased. It was rather ugly and made of cement, no wonder it was so heavy. It had a face on it and it looked like an old man who was stretched out on a platform of such. The more I looked at it, the more it took on a different understanding for me. I read the caption under the picture, it said, “Be careful wanting more than you deserve”. What on earth was the meaning for that ? My imagination figured that this face on this cemented sculpture was a person who once wanted more than they deserved. I imagined that they were frozen in cement, in a stretched out position. The stretched out position was to represent, a load of something so big his arms were stretched out so desperately, to hold, onto whatever it was.

This sculpture was most haunting to me. I quickly shut the catalog and went back to tending the store. Ecubog came in to the store more times in the days ahead, but I never got the courage to ask him, why he chose that particular thing to buy. I wish I had because weeks after he acquired this sculpture, he was found dead, in his basement. The apparent way he was found haunted the local police department covering the death. Rumor has it that he was found stretched out just like that sculpture that he had bought weeks before.

In my mind I assumed that he was a person who wanted more than he deserved and possibly his arms were stretched out unbearably far, because of the greed in his heart. I guess we will never know…
