Eat This One Food Every Day to Lose Weight and Live Longer, Says Expert (msn.com)https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/nutrition/eat-this-one-food-every-day-to-lose-weight-and-live-longer-says-expert/ss-BB1bR1MD?ocid=msedgntp

Slide 1 of 6: A guiding light for many aspiring healthy eaters is the world's Blue Zones, the small, outlier regions on the planet where people live much longer than expected lifespans. I'm talking about far-flung places like the Barbagia region of Sardinia, Italy; Ikaria, Greece; the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica; and Okinawa, Japan, where women live the longest lifespans in the known world.According to a new CNBC article by Dan Buettner, a National Geographic Fellow, longevity researcher, and author of The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who've Lived the Longest, there are several general dieting rules that basically all of these healthy people adhere to. They eat a ton of whole foods, for instance. They also eat lots of plants (upwards of 90%), plenty of olive oil, not too much meat or fish, and rarely any sugar. They consume plenty of water. But there's a surprising food they also eat daily that you're likely not getting enough of: beans."Beans reign supreme in Blue Zones and are the cornerstone of every longevity diet in the world: black beans in Nicoya; lentils, garbanzo, and white beans in the Mediterranean; and soybeans in Okinawa," writes Buettner. "Most centenarians eat at least four times as many beans as Americans do on average—at least a half cup per day. And so should you. Why? Beans are packed with more nutrients per gram than any other food on Earth." (And to improve your kitchen skills, don't miss these 52 Life-Changing Kitchen Hacks That'll Make You Enjoy Cooking Again.)He notes that beans are comprised of 77% carbs (complex carbs—the good kind), 21% protein, and they're ultra-rich in fiber. "They'll likely push less healthy foods out of your diet," he says. If you bolster your diet with beans, he suggests that you'll gain better control of your weight, as well. And as it pertains to your lifespan: A study published in The Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health found that upping your intake of beans by 20 grams can lower your risk of death by 6%.According to U.S. Dietary Guidelines, we should all be eating roughly a half-cup of beans per day. But it's likely that many of us aren't getting enough. All beans aren't created equal, however. Health experts say that the color of the beans will tell you everything you need to know about their nutritional value, and the darker the bean, the better. A study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that black beans, for instance, contain more than 40 times the antioxidants as their white counterparts. For some of the types of beans that you should add to your diet, here are a few bean options to start easing ASAP. TIMESOFINDIA.COM | Last updated on – Aug 18, 2020, 07:00 IST

01/1110 easy and clever weight loss tips from around the world

Losing weight is no cakewalk. There’s a lot that needs to be done from following a healthy and clean diet to exercising daily. In fact, what a lot of us don’t know is that some of the most touted weight loss secrets aren’t just secrets for a reason-they are all derived from deep rooted traditions and practiced as a way of life and years over, came to be adapted by people all over the world.

Here are 10 doable and smart tricks from around the world that weight watchers can try.

02/11Thailand: Eat spicy

Thai food is among the spiciest foods in the world. Spicy food is said to raise your metabolism and slow down your eating with that little zing. When you eat too fast, by the time your body signals it’s full, you have already overeaten. Eating slowly is a good way to lose weight and eating spicy food can help you do this.

03/11Poland: Eat home-cooked meal more often

To avoid wastage of money and to keep health intact, Poles prefer eating at home more often. They spend only 5 per cent of their money on eating out as compared to Canadians who spend about 30 per cent of their income on eating out.

04/11Germany: Eat breakfast

Around 75 per cent of Germans eat their breakfast daily, which includes whole-grain cereals, bread and fruits. Experts have been advising people not to skip breakfast for years now. Skipping breakfast makes you indulge in high-calorie foods later. The easiest change to control binge eating is by starting your day right.

05/11United Kingdom: Eat small portions

British people prefer eating smaller portions at home and even at restaurants. As per nutritionists, supersizing a meal helps supersize you.

06/11France: Do not eat too fast

The French are known for having leisurely family meals. As per studies, on an average 92 per cent of French families dine together at night. These meals typically last for 33 minutes on the weekdays and 43 minutes on the weekends. It might sound illogical but longer meals actually encourage less eating. It takes around 20 minutes from the time you are full for your brain to realise that you are full. Thus, taking more time to eat means you are actually eating less.

07/11India: Ayurvedic concotions

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical system based on natural and holistic approach for good physical and mental health.

Ayurveda offers many easy concotions that promise to promote weight loss. These concoctions do not have any side effects and promote overall health.

08/11Russia: Grow your food

Russia, which has a similar climate to Canada grows its own vegetables and fruits. This makes their diet automatically more nutritious. They even preserve the food they grow.

09/11Mexico: Eat a big lunch

Mexicans eat their biggest meal between 2 pm to 4 pm instead of eating a heavy meal at night. The logic behind this is, if you eat a smaller dinner, you will wake up feeling hungrier and will have a bigger breakfast, which facilitates weight loss.

10/11Hungary: Eat more pickles

Hungarians do not just pickle their cucumbers but also bells peppers, cabbage and tomatoes too. All the vinegar in these pickles can help make you lose weight.

The acetic acid in the vinegar helps lower the blood pressure, blood sugar and fat formation. If you are buying pickles from the market, check the sodium levels. https://e6a29352d9fe81e806c2adcb4c2acb83.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-37/html/container.html?n=0

11/11Japan: Take a nap

Chronic sleep deprivation leads to weight gain. That is why people in Japan take a 20-30 minutes nap to complete their sleep. Many people feel they are hungry when they are actually sleepy, so they eat a snack instead of taking a nap.

Also, the less you sleep, the lower are your leptin (helps sense the brain when you are full) levels and higher are your ghrelin (triggers hunger) levels.

Weight Loss Trick~#10

Eat more protein

In addition to fiber, protein is another important player in the weight loss game because it requires more energy to burn than carbs or fats and thus keeps you fuller longer. In fact, in a study in the journal Appetite, researchers from the University of Missouri compared the satiety effects of high-, moderate-, and low-protein yogurts on 24-28-year-old women, and found Greek yogurt, with the highest protein content, to have the greatest effect. For an added boost of protein and flavor, consider topping your Greek yogurt with some fresh berries and almonds and then pair with a hard-boiled egg. If you don’t like the tang of Greek yogurt, you can always opt for high-protein cottage cheese instead. For more helpful eating tips, take a look at The 25 Best High-Protein Snacks!
