I Feel Compelled! Don’t You?

There is no secret, that I love cats! If you spend anytime on my webpage, you will definitely see that , for yourself.

So, there is this cat that reminds me a lot of a feline that I, myself, own. They could be twins! The article I read this morning was about this poor cat, who had a birthday celebration, in hopes that she would be seen and adopted. No-one came for this feline’s birthday. Let me tell you, this broke my heart, for some reason. No, I do not know this cat, nor do I live where she is. But if you will help me spread the word about her and share it on social media. Let’s help get this cat a home, for the rest of her life. MwsR

More about MONIQUE

Magnificent Monique is patiently awaiting her forever home at Battersea. Her beauty speaks for itself, but there is more to this unique girl than meets the eye. She has an adorable gentle nature and a lot of affection to give, once she feels safe and settled.

Monique loves spending time with her human friends and enjoys leaping around her pen when they play with her favourite string toy. She also loves a good head and chin rub, and will let you know just how much by purring away in delight!

Monique longs for a home and garden of her own where she can play until her hearts’ content and snooze away on her new family’s warm laps. Monique is looking for an enclosed garden she can access via a cat flap.

Monique has tested positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). FIV is a slow-acting virus and most cats live long, happy and healthy lives. However, in order to protect other cats and to preserve the health of the carrier, Battersea rehomes FIV+ cats to homes with cat proof gardens. Also, due to her FIV+ status, Monique will need to be the only pet in the household.

Don’t worry if your garden isn’t currently “cat-proofed” as we can offer plenty of advice. We’ll also arrange for you to speak to a Battersea vet prior to rehoming.

To find out more please take a look at our ‘Your FIV+ Cat’ information page.

How to Organize
  1. These 4 steps to organizing will help keep you on task and they will produce awesome results!
  2. Allow yourself have a black hole – It shouldn’t be too big or takeover an entire room, but designating a certain spot where clutter can pile is certainly helpful in keeping the rest of your house clean. ‘Cause let’s be honest, having a perfectly clean house all the time is not realistic. Allowing yourself to have a “black hole” is a good way to do a quick clean when someone calls and says they are on their way. Do a quick pick-up of the house, put everything in your black hole and put it away when you have more time.
  3. Make it smell good. A good smelling house can help mask a mess. And lets be honest, even a clean room that smells gross is not pleasant to be in. I like to use my wax burner to get a good scent through out the whole house!

Spring Cleaning Hacks

how to clean your kitchen sink
  1. Rub wax paper over your faucets to keep them shinier and water-spot free!
  2. Cleaning ceiling fans can be a real pain! It typically involves covering the entire bed or couch with a sheet so the dust doesn’t fall all over, then vacuuming again and again (and again!) to make sure it gets picked up… I seriously HATE it! Problem solved completely by using a pillowcase to clean ceiling fans.  (Tip from Real Simple)
  3. Toss your Legos in a mesh bag and then put the mesh bad in your washing machine. The easiest, least painful way to get them all clean fast!
  4. Clean your mattress by sprinkling baking soda over the top of it. You can add some lavender drops to make it smell pretty too!
  5. Clean your blinds with a sock! Mix equal parts vinegar and warm water in a bowl. Put your hand inside the sock, then wet it with the vinegar mixture.  Wipe the dust and dirt off your blinds and watch as it cleans the top and underside the same time!

Polka Dot Shamrock~ DIY

I recently had a customer ask me if I could make a shamrock to go on her daughters skirt instead of the usual flower. My answer was, “Sure, I don’t know how I’ll do it, but it will be fun to figure it out!” And sure enough…. it was fun figuring it out. Now that it’s “figured out”, I might as well share and let you have some fun with it too.

You will need:
green fabric
thread and needle
Clover yoyo maker is optional
(Clover is the brand, not the shape. They do have a shamrock shaped yoyo maker but I thought it looked more like a flower than a shamrock. I think the heart shaped one works better.)

Make 3 heart shaped yoyo’s
If you’re using the yoyo maker just follow the instructions.
(obviously)

When you take it off of the yoyo maker it looks like this, so I’m thinking you could just stitch around the edge of a heart shaped piece of fabric if you didn’t want to get the yoyo maker.

At this point you’ll want to just pull on the thread to gather the heart into….

…a smaller, rufflier version of itself!

Lay 2 of the hearts (RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER) and hand stitch them together. Begin about 1/3 of the way down and go all the way to the point at the bottom.

This is why I wrote RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER in all caps!OOPS….just keepin’ it real. Time out while I unpick and try again.

There we go, much better. Do the same thing with the 3rd heart.

You’re almost done.

For the stem you will want a rectangle approximately 2.5 x 2 inches big.

Fold it in half so that the shorter ends are meeting.

Fold the two ends in a little bit. That way you only have one raw edge and that will eventually be beneath a little circle of felt.

Starting at one end, roll the piece of fabric into a stem.

Like so.

Hand stitch all the way down the back of the stem. Then stitch the stem onto the back of the shamrock.

And there you go…. a polka dot shamrock!

To finish it off just add a circle of felt to the back. I added a pin, since they were going on skirts, but you could do so many different things with these. You could make a giant one for your door, put a bunch on a wreath, decorate napkin holders with them…just all kinds of things!
